Trust Laser Combi Mouse causing Windows XP to crash / restart PDF Print E-mail

Digg!
Mad, just thought I'd post this up in case you're getting random restarts in Windows XP like what I have had been doing did isn't it. What?

Have been having trouble with very few symptoms- ie random restarting and not a lot else to show (not even fleeting blue-screens.

Windows Management Application error log gave symptoms that other people out there were having with faulty memory sticks and/or corrupted Hibernate settings (hiberfile.sys).

The problem turns out to be a Laser Combi Mouse MI-6900Z - I was getting random restarts, but especially when scrolling in Firefox (which made me realise it was possibly the mouse that was causing the problems).

The fix? Updated drivers from Trust! D'Oh!

Annoying really because it started happening when I'd just rebuilt the machine, and because my first guesses after memory and hibernate settings were video card and then PSU. SO I bought a half-size (half-height / low profile) PCI-E video card, and a new 210w power supply (as my original one was only 108w). The box is a Dell GX280, Pentium 4 by the way.

The most annoying thing about this is that it seems if you stick a PCI-E video card in, the BIOS switches off the onboard graphics, meaning it's no good for dual monitor support.

So the very thing that I thought was causing the problems - namely the regular old-school not-even-AGP PCI Video card - is back in the PC.

So here's the mouse - you can grab the drivers from the page.

It's a fantastic mouse by the way. But don't try using default Windows drivers for it...
